The Martin County Community Foundation customizes its services to provide donors with a personalized philanthropy plan. Our information and recommendations are tailored to donors' interests and preferences.
Donors to MCCF may establish several different types of funds. Donors may work with us to create a fund that will become active during their lifetime or upon their death. The type of fund established should be determined based on whether donors want to have more continued influence on the way funds are spent or give that responsibility to MCCF's staff and board. Our current funds range in size from $8,000 to $800,000.
Donor Advised Funds: Donors, either living or in their estate planning documents, establish a fund in whatever amount is appropriate for them. The fund is managed by a wealth management professional specified by the donor who will follow MCCF's Investment Criteria. Each year, upwards of 4.5% of the value of the fund is distributed. Donors may make recommendations as to how they would like to see the grant funds awarded. Donors may designate others as successor advisors.
Scholarship Funds: Similar to a Donor Advised Fund, a Scholarship Fund may be established by a donor at MCCF. Donors may specify eligibility criteria for their scholarships.
Designated Funds: Donors may designate one or more non-profit organizations as recipients who will benefit in perpetuity from the annual distributions of this fund. Should a non-profit organization ever cease to operate or change its mission, MCCF will redirect the funds to another organization that honors the donor's original intention.
Unrestricted Funds: Gifts of unrestricted funds allow MCCF's Board and staff to meet changing community needs.
Our current services include:
- Researching potential beneficiary organizations
- Arranging local site visits to nonprofit organizations
- Providing information on current and emerging community needs
- Ongoing oversight of distributed funds and compliance
